12" of Snow–Winter Strom Warning

News Flash: Winter Storm Warning Update

Through the night the Leavenworth Upper Valley received over twelve inches of snow far exceeding the seven inches of snow forecasted for the nighttime accumulation. It looks as if winter is just getting started and there is little sign of the snow letting up.

Many people in the Leavenworth Upper Valley have said, since last spring we have been running about a month behind in our norm for weather. Add to that theory the snowfall over the last few days, especially with the winter storm that hit the Plain and Lake Wenatchee area.

“The snow we’ve received lately is more like the snow storms we normally get in January. And if that’s the case we could get a lot more snow throughout March”.

February snowfall in the Leavenworth Upper Valley is normally modest amounts but could add up to a few feet. Which means Plain and Lake Wenatchee area could still receive record snowfall for the month of March. Visitor and local residents should anticipate an extended winter and sudden snow storms.

Winter is Still Here, More Snow

Over the last few days the Leavenworth Upper Valley has received more snow. Accumulations have been totaling a two to three inches, however today we have already received two inches. Weather forecast is for snow accumulations of three to seven inches and another three to five inches tonight.

For current weather information click the link below: http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?CityName=Plain&state=WA&site=OTX&textField1=47.7628&textField2=-120.656&e=0

Don’t put away those skis, snowshoes or snow machines; winter is not over yet. Some of the areas that have been closed in past weeks are now open – however some of these areas come with warnings. Pay close attention to all warnings even if they are not for the area that concerns you. Outdoor conditions can change at any moment including avalanche and storm conditions.

Come and enjoy the Leavenworth Upper Valley and remember we still have winter conditions.

Leavenworth Upper Valley

The Leavenworth Upper Valley is receiving snow for the second day in a row. Yesterday the Upper Valley received 1 1/2 inches of snow as winter season tries to hang on and deliver more fun with fresh snow.

Today it is snowing and the Upper Valley has already received about 1/2 inch of fresh snow this morning. The new snow has blanketed the area providing a beautiful backdrop and may allow for more snowshoeing and cross country skiing.

Current forecast is calling for snow off and on the rest of the week with a storm expected to leave up to four inches of snow on Thursday.

Remember, winter driving conditions are still in effect and people should drive accordingly. Even if roads appear to be clear of snow, there is a chance of black ice or frozen slush on the highways.

More Snow In Forecast

Winter has not given up yet. Weather forecast shows we should be receiving snow off and on for the next week. We received about a 1/2 inch of new snow last night and are expecting more; not a lot of snow but more.

With weather temperatures reaching close to forty degrees over the last two weeks, most people were thinking winter maybe be over and we are heading into an early spring.  This may still hold true but for now… Snow is in the forecast.

The light dusting we received last night added a beautiful blanket covering tree branches giving the area a look similar to the beginning of a winter season. However, with blue sky already this morning, it is more like an early spring snow.

Leavenworth Events – Snow is Falling

News Flash – Snow is falling in the Leavenworth Upper Valley.

Is winter here…again? Lately Leavenworth and the Upper Valley has experienced unusually warm temperatures for this time of year and a lack of snowfall, instead receiving rain. Today all of that has changed. Low temperatures of near twenty degrees, weather reports were suggesting snowfall with the incoming moisture.

As of 12:00 pm, noon, it began to snow.  Ten hours later the snow is still coming down with approximately 4 to 5 inches of fresh white fluffy snow. Unfortunately the snow did not come on Friday providing a perfect winter weekend for those venturing out to Leavenworth.  Instead the snow came as most weekend guests were on their way home or debating as to when would be the best time to leave.

Should this rate of snowfall continue, the Leavenworth Upper Valley could see up to twelve inches of fresh snow by Monday morning.

It appears, that just maybe, possibly winter has returned to Leavenworth and the outlying areas.

Drive care, enjoy the winter, be prepared for winter conditions.
