Winter Snow Storm Hits Upper Valley

It has been snowing in the Leavenworth Upper Valley, Plain, Lake Wenatchee area since ten this morning. As of nine thirty this evening, snowfall has measured thirteen inches and it’s still snowing.
Making the drive from Leavenworth after the Christmas Lighting Festival tree lighting is pretty good. The County has been plowing the roads to make driving easy. Remember it is winter conditions so driving accordingly and take your time.
For travelers coming to Leavenworth and the Upper Valley, be sure to bring driving directions and a map to get you to your destination. Navigation systems are not accurate maps for the area.

We have received several emails lately concerning traveling etiquette in the Leavenworth area. We will be answering each question in separate blog posts. If you have a question please feel free to email us at blog@leavenworthevents.com and we will research and post the question and answer to the blog.

If your question is along the lines of “what’s the best restaurant?” or “where is the best place to stay?” we will not answer the question. These type questions are personal opinion type answers and are solely dependant on a persons taste and expectations.

Below is a list of questions we have received so far.

1. How much should I tip for services other than food service?

5. What is the Leavenworth Upper Valley?

6. I have medical concerns but want to visit Leavenworth. Are there hospitals in Leavenworth?

7. Are there areas for novice hikers?

8. We enjoy winter sports, what is there in and around Leavenworth?

9. Are there places outside of Leavenworth for lodging if we don’t want to be downtown?

Leavenworth Events – Snow is Falling

News Flash – Snow is falling in the Leavenworth Upper Valley.

Is winter here…again? Lately Leavenworth and the Upper Valley has experienced unusually warm temperatures for this time of year and a lack of snowfall, instead receiving rain. Today all of that has changed. Low temperatures of near twenty degrees, weather reports were suggesting snowfall with the incoming moisture.

As of 12:00 pm, noon, it began to snow.  Ten hours later the snow is still coming down with approximately 4 to 5 inches of fresh white fluffy snow. Unfortunately the snow did not come on Friday providing a perfect winter weekend for those venturing out to Leavenworth.  Instead the snow came as most weekend guests were on their way home or debating as to when would be the best time to leave.

Should this rate of snowfall continue, the Leavenworth Upper Valley could see up to twelve inches of fresh snow by Monday morning.

It appears, that just maybe, possibly winter has returned to Leavenworth and the outlying areas.

Drive care, enjoy the winter, be prepared for winter conditions.

Leavenworth Events – Hwy 2 Closed!

News Flash!! – News Flash!!

Highway 2 is closed from Coles Corner to west entrance to Leavenworth, WA. A large boulder has fallen onto the highway blocking both lanes. The boulder has been compared to a Semi-truck. The boulder is so large it is blocking from the guardrail, across both lanes to just a couple of feet from the hillside. We were told the Department of Transportation (DOT) will have to blast the boulder into small pieces before it can be moved. This could take several days.

Highway 2 is not expected to be open until late Saturday or Sunday.

If you are planning a trip to Leavenworth this weekend, be aware the detour will add approximately thirty to forty minutes to your travel time.

The detour uses Highway 207, left on to Beaver Valley Highway (old highway 209), up and over Beaver Hill and down the Chumstick Highway. These roads are well traveled whether it is being used as a detour or normal traveling for local residents. Expect delays due to additional traffic and some drivers not knowing the road.

Many hotels are already booked so if you do not have lodging secured, do so before traveling to Leavenworth. Stevens Pass is also expect to be very busy which will add to the number of people requiring lodging.

This weekend is the annual Ice Festival which should be a lot of fun for the whole family despite the closing of Highway 2.

If you have any questions, contact your lodging facility or contact the Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce. For road closure information contact the Department of Transportation.
