Winter Has Arrived!

Winter has arrived, although it is not technically here, the weather tells a different story. Again the Leavenworth Upper Valley is receiving snow, for two days in a row.

If you are adventuring to Leavenworth or the Upper Valley in the coming days, remember to be prepared for winter driving conditions. This time of year the weather can change without notice. Unfortunately, this time of year it is very difficult to predict the weather.

Accommodations in the area fill up quickly, so if you are planning to spend the night, be sure to book your accommodations before you travel to the area. Christmas Lighting Festival weekends are almost here and most places require a minimum two night stay on the weekends.

Drive safe and enjoy your trip to Leavenworth and the Upper Valley.

Leavenworth Events, Announcement Page

Leavenworth Events is considering doing a wedding announcement page. Nothing big, super fancy, just basic but classy. The page would have basic information: bride’s name, groom’s name, wedding date, location, arrival time and ceremony time, reception location, with start and end time.

We will not be listing the type of foods but rather what guests should expect, ie: brunch, lunch, dinner, appetizers, cake and coffee. We will also list things such as “dancing after” etc.

Possible additional information: place of wedding registry, honeymoon destination, alcohol or non-alcohol reception, vendors names, photographer, DJ, dress shop, hair stylists, musicians, any special event during reception ie: money dance, bride/groom auction, money tree, etc.

The wedding announcement page is still on the drawing board. When and if it becomes available, LE Staff will post to the blog more information including links to the announcement page. Some ideas or issues are still in the discussion stage. One of these ideas is how to make the page available to the public (bride and groom). The page may be only available to our sponsors for a fee or part of their ad contract. If that’s the case, then the venue would set their own price (if any) and all direction would come from the sponsor.

Leavenworth, Plain, Trunk or Treat

Mark your calendars if you haven’t already, the annual Trunk or Treat is coming up fast! Halloween falls on a Saturday this year so no excuses not to be there. As always the Trunk or Treat will be held in the parking lots of the Plain Grocery and Plain Hardware Store. This is a safe way for you and your kids to have fun. Be sure to dress warm, with weather conditions so unpredictable this year, you need be prepared for anything.

Don’t forget to bring a flashlight and make sure the little ones will be easily seen while going from trunk to trunk. Bring a little change so you can get that cup of coffee or hot chocolate to warm up from the inside out.

Leavenworth Winter Driving Conditions

For those of you that haven’t heard, Leavenworth Upper Valley has already received the first snow of the year. Traditionally, we look for snow on Halloween, however this year, we received the fluffy white stuff about 3 weeks early.

Over the last forty years, we have received snow only a couple of times this early. Unpredictable, out of the norm, wetter than usual.

These are all things to consider when driving the passes. Be prepared! Carry an extra change of clothes, heavy coat, a blanket, road flares, first aid kit, tire chains, a good spare tire, flashlight and drinking water.

Check weather forecasts before leaving on your trip, drive with a full tank of gas, check fluid levels, winterize your vehicle, and check tire pressure. And let someone know your plans and keep in contact with them during your trip; call them when you arrive, when you leave and when you return.

Be safe! Drive smart!

    Halloween Party for All

    Halloween - Trunk or Treat

It's that time of year again, Halloween! This is the 4th annual "Truck or Treat" event; come one - come all. For kids and adults! On Halloween, come to the parking lot of Plain Grocery and Plain Hardware Store. Bring the kids, visit the "trunks" of all the cars and trucks for a safe and sane, well, maybe not "sane" Halloween. The trunks will be loaded with treats for all the kids. This is also a great time to socialize. Adults gathering, kids getting treats, what more could you ask for?

Maybe a cup of hot cider and cookies at Plain Grocery, great conversation from neighbors, or stories by District 9 Firefighters. Ask the Firefighters about their new rescue unit to be delivered earlier this year.

Mick and Trish Lamar are gathering local businesses and firefighters to help the kids have a fun and safe Halloween.

    Hope to see you there!

    Fire District 9 Auxiliary

    Community Pulls Together

Leavenworth Events. Com would like to thank the Chelan County Fire District 9 Auxiliary and volunteer Firefighters. This years (like every years) annual Yard Sale and Bake Sale hosted by the Fire Auxiliary is greatly appreciated beyond words.

The time and effort put into the annual Yard Sale is obviously time consuming and exhausting but very beneficial to the community. The time and energy for the Yard Sale does not just start  a few days before Labor Day weekend. The preparation for this event is on going all year long.

Collecting items for the Yard Sale, organizing and publicizing  the event starts shortly after the previous years yard sale. Donated items are collected all year long from community members and from visitors to our area.

Being a member of the Fire Auxiliary or Fire Department is not just a “job”; it is a commitment to the community and the people who visit our area throughout the year. And it is all volunteer. Countless hours, numerous phone calls, driving back and forth from here to there, the work is endless and can go on and on.

A special thank you goes out to the whole community for their support, to those who participate in supplying items for the Yard Sale and Bake Sale, donations from businesses and donations from purchases made at the Yard Sale and Bake Sale.

Money raised at this and other Auxiliary events goes along way for supporting our local Fire Department and Community.

A very special “tip of the hat”, thank you and respect to the Auxiliary who are often unseen but heroes none the less.

From volunteers supporting their community and  a community supporting their volunteers, we at Leavenworth Events thank you all.
